Hi Malcolm, during the summer racing season I was racing every Tuesday at Crystal Palace and trying to race on Saturday and Sunday. I did several stage races this season, the highlight being the Surrey League Revolutions race, 5 days of 100 miles a stage. I'd also commute to work and train on Thursday evenings. On average I was riding around 12-15 hours a week whilst working full time. I started racing with dulwich around 4 or 5 years ago after just doing club rides for a couple of years,

I managed to get my first cat licence by the middle of the summer and am now easing of the road racing and doing cyclo-cross once a week for a bit of fun. I ride every day even if it's just a recovery ride.

Hi Kevin, thanks for your comment. How long have you been racing for? I try to get out training on the bike as much as possible at the moment but can be hard with working full time also. How often do you usually get on the bike every week? Good luck getting up to a first cat.

Yeah, I was working on my race face that day. The rain helped too. It's doesn't hold a candle to yours though. You look like you're putting about 2000 watts through your pedals.

What an awesome ride you did on Tuesday - well done!

I don't really know what it is about me and that stage race; 5 punctures in 3 editions is pretty unsatisfactory really.

This is your club site, so I won't be a regular poster, but just thought I'd write and say great win!

Cheers and perhaps I'll see you on sunday, though I'm not sure - you must only need about 20 points more for your first cat?

That's the attitude, give it a go, I have no idea whether I'll finish either. Can you make it to my place for 9:00am please?

Kevin, Despite my aprehension, I will indeed give the Wally a go...even if just to fly the Dulwich colours for an extra lap or two before you all leave me behind! What time do you plan to leave your place on Sunday? (I may even grab a train across...quite easy from Streatham!)

About Me:
I've been in Dulwich Paragon for five years and since autumn 2007 I have taken on the job of Dulwich Paragon's road racing secretary. Recently, I have discovered cyclo-cross and finished 6th in the London Cyclo-Cross League 2007-2008, next season a top 5?. On the road I'm a second cat licence holder and for the 2008 season I am aiming to achieve my first cat licence.

Power profile test

Today I bailed out of the Surrey League race at Chertsey and instead spent a beautifully sunny day indoors doing a power profile test on my turbo. The idea of the test is to find out my maximum power for different lengths of effort: 5 seconds, 1 minute, and 5 minutes.

The first test for 5 minutes went well enough but for the shorter efforts getting out of the saddle on a turbo and effectively sprinting is a bit of a non-starter as the bike and turbo wobble around all over the place. Next time I… Continue
